Southeast RCAP receives a Community Services Block Grant administered by the Virginia Department of Social Services. With this Community Action funding, we are able to impact four key issues facing low-income rural areas in the state: water and wastewater needs, housing, community organization, and community economic development. During the program year, Southeast RCAP provided training and technical assistance to 789 localities and 40 agencies on community organization, needs assessments and planning with regard to water and wastewater problems and economic development. During the FY 2001-2002 program year, eleven households with 30 total occupants received improved housing as a result of this program. Also, 576 households, representing 1,264 individuals, and 12 additional communities received funding for new water and wastewater system development, upgrades, and repairs.
