The Seven SERCAP States

Here at SERCAP, we are dedicated to helping rural communities across our seven-state region maintain the basic necessities of life that everyone deserves.

While we are proud to serve these seven states their communities, we can’t forget all that these places provide us with. From agricultural production to other materials, here are just a few of the products we get from these states. Let’s start with the northernmost and work our way down.

Poultry and agriculture are a few of Delaware’s main industries. Broiler chickens are one of the most valuable agricultural products produced in Delaware. Corn and apples are the state’s top crops, while soybeans, wheat, and dairy are among other important commodities.

A prominent producer of seafood, Maryland is a national leader in supplying blue crabs and soft clams. Although Maryland is one of the smallest states, it is home to over 12,000 farms! With a large agricultural and fishing economy, Maryland has many rural communities that we proudly serve.

Rural Virginia is home to scenic, expansive views of surrounding mountains and countless farming communities. In fact, Virginia is home to over 44,000 farms! Southwest Virginia also has a rich history of coal mining that dates back centuries. There is even a Virginia Coal Heritage Trail that provides a glimpse of the rural, coal-mining communities in the heart of Appalachia’s  coalfield region.

We take great pride in serving this beautiful state through our Virginia office, which is also our main office. That’s right: our headquarters is located in Roanoke, VA!

North Carolina:

If you enjoy sweet potato fries or sweet potato casserole, there’s a good chance those potatoes came from North Carolina. The Tarheel State has been the nation’s #1 sweet potato producing state since 1971. North Carolina is also known for its poultry, eggs, pork, and trout, just to name a few others.

South Carolina:

While South Carolina is recognized as a top producer of poultry, the Palmetto State also harvests produce, seafood, and more. We are very thankful to make positive impacts to the great state of South Carolina and the people who call it home.

When you think of Georgia, you may think of the hustle and bustle that is Atlanta. However, much of the state is covered in rolling hills and pasture land. There is no state that has as strong a connection to an agricultural product as Georgia does. Can you guess what that product is? It’s a peach! Also known as the Peach State (and rightfully so), Georgia produces over 130 million pounds of peaches each year!

Last, but certainly not least, Florida! A few of Florida’s thriving industries include commercial fishing, mining, and citrus growing. Did you know that more than two-thirds of the United State’s citrus is grown in the Sunshine State? With extensive citrus production, Florida has a large rural population as a result. We are proud to support these areas with our water, wastewater, and community development services.

These rural communities play such an integral part of the success and beauty of each state we serve. Our team is honored to serve the rural communities of our service region - and the people who live & work there.
